Protect your farm from development
Growers in New Jersey and across the country who are interested in joining the movement to preserve farmland can start by hitting the Web. There are several online resources you can utilize to get the ball rolling.
American Farmland Trust (www.farmland.org) - This organization has helped protect more than 1 million acres of American farmland. It uses three strategies in its efforts: Protect the best land through publicly funded agricultural conservation easement programs; plan for growth with agriculture in mind through effective community planning and growth management; and keep the land healthy for farmland through encouraging stewardship and conservation practices.
Farmland Information Center (www.farmlandinfo.org) - A partnership between American Farmland Trust and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, this site offers a collection of materials, agricultural and land use statistics, laws, literature, and technical resources related to farmland protection and stewardship.
Google (www.google.com) - Virtually every state has its own organization dedicated to farmland preservation. Go to Google, type in "farmland preservation" and the name of your state, and chances are you’ll find the right site very quickly.
