International Fruit Tree Association: Celebrating 50 Years
Welcome to the American Fruit Grower®
online coverage of the International Fruit Tree Association's 50th Anniversary. IFTA came into existence 50 years ago with a pruning demonstration and a discussion of the pros and cons of dwarf fruit trees for commercial orchards. Today, dwarf trees are the industry standard, and the organization now leads the way in advancing intensive orchard systems, and putting this information in the hands of fruit growers around the world.
IFTA is celebrating its 50th Anniversary by holding its annual conference in Hobart, Tasmania. Our coverage of IFTA's 50th Anniversary is multi-faceted, and now that you've found you're way here, you're at the right place. Editor Brian Sparks has made the trip Down Under and, with the support of others on the tour, is writing a daily blog of his travels. Click below to read each day's account. In addition, the 2006 Apple Grower of the Year, Dan Boyer of Fishertown, PA, is also on hand, and is providing his own thoughts as well. Be sure to bookmark the site, and check back beginning Monday, January 29, for daily updates!
The February 2007 issue of American/Western Fruit Grower included a 16-page special report on the past, present, and future of IFTA. In addition to the stories that ran in that issue, there are also several articles found exclusively at this site. Click below to check out our Bonus Web Features.
Finally, the April 2007 issue will feature a rundown of the meetings and tours that took place Down Under.
